* Roma community reacts to resettlement plan

The Greece Parliament passed an amendment which envisage the resettlement of thousands of the community’s members in 70 new camps without any consultation.

The special secretary of the Panhellenic Confederation of Greek Roma (ELLAN PASSE), Antonis Batzalis, stated they were happy with the initiative and argued to recognize the good intentions. However, he was concerned that this decision was made without the presence of the Roma representatives, which they perceived as a violation of the European regulations and common sense.

ELLAN PASSE requested the withdrawal of the amendment and demanded for a fresh discussion between the representatives of Roma community and the local authorities. The reason for this is to make sure that any plan would effectively address the actual problems and not just in paper.

* Conference: Social Engagement for Social Inclusion

The situation of migrant populations living in slums /camps /temporary housing areas in France: Access to rights, mobilization and coordination of actors, and social engagement of populations.

At the seminar students (from the FXB Field Education Internship Program, a university-wide program established in 2014 at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health) led morning sessions on defining inclusion and access to rights, empowerment in theory and practice, and scales and approaches to integration and empowerment. Along with the students other representatives from collaborating organizations and community members will respond to their findings. In the afternoon they bridged research and discussion through sharing all their findings and facilitating conversations and consensus on next steps.
