1. Why did you decide to enter politics?

I have worked for the local authority for 30 years and been a Mayor for the last 12. I became a politician because of my interest and will to engage with the place where I was born and live.

2. How did you succeed in politics?

Essentially by working but also by listening and discussing in order to plan and make projects to be able to complete tasks or provide services.

3. What political achievements have you accomplished?

As Mayor, I believe I contributed with my work and modernity, and I think it was because of that work that I was invited to be part of the 21st Portuguese Government.

4. Who is your role model?

At 59 years of age I have many references in my life such as my father, Carlos Luís Miguel, as a person, and such as the former President of Portugal, Jorge Sampaio, as a politician. Both are people who have influenced me.

5. What advice can you give to young Roma with regards to how to succeed in politics?

Study and always go as far as you can. Always participate in community discussions where you live, and do not let others speak for you.
