Facing all the Facts!

October 2016- September 2018
Facing all the Facts! is a two-year project financed by the Rights, Equality and Citizenship (REC) Programme of the European Union. It aims to improve the recognition, recording of and responses to hate crime and hate speech at the national level and beyond by working across civil society and public authorities. The project comprises a partnership covering five countries: Belgium, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Specific objectives of the project are to:
  1. Research what works best to facilitate co-operation and data sharing between criminal justice systems and civil society organisations.
  2. Build the capacity of law enforcement, prosecutors and civil society to monitor hate crime and hate speech in person and online, and to develop guidance and models for collaborative working at a national level.
  3. Produce high quality and targeted training on how to identify, record and monitor hate crimes against specific target groups which can be tailored to a variety of national contexts and integrated in existing learning programmes.
  4. Inform EU policy through evidenced and practice-based recommendations on improving hate crime and hate speech recording, reporting and training methods in these areas.
  5. Ensure that training materials and methods on hate crime are accessible to users with disabilities.
Activities:
  • Online training modules on understanding group specific bias indicators and the needs of victim communities (Roma, Muslim, Jewish, Migrants, LGBT and people with disabilities).
  • Online training modules addressing hate crime and hate speech for civil society and also regarding the specific professional considerations for police and prosecutors.
