Promoting EU Citizenship among Roma

July 2007 – June 2008
ERIO was a partner in this project, which focused predominantly but not exclusively, on Roma in Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The project was funded by the European Commission’s ‘Europe for Citizens’ programme. The project aimed to bring Roma communities closer to EU policies on anti-discrimination and social inclusion and to the Decade of Roma Inclusion (2005 – 2015).

Specific aims of the project:
  • To provide information on EU and national anti-discrimination legislation;
  • To provide information on the 2008 European Year for Intercultural Dialogue;
  • To make Roma more aware of EU policies which are relevant to them and of the Decade of Roma Inclusion;
  • To reach Roma who are not familiar with EU policies and the Decade of Roma Inclusion and do not have access to the usual channels required to obtain this information;
  • To get Roma communities more involved in the National Action Plans of the Roma Decade.
